Herman Miller founder D.J. DePree saw an article in a 1945 Life magazine featuring George Nelson's Storagewall unit, which was causing a sensation in the furniture industry. He was so impressed that he paid a visit to Nelson in New York and convinced him to be his director of design, which spurred Nelson to found his design firm, George Nelson & Associates. With his design firm and the directorship at Herman Miller, George Nelson wen on to become one of the most influential designers of his time.
This desk is a gorgeous example of one of his early designs for Herman Miller. It has been professionally restored. The Ebonized Walnut slab features fantastic grain that pops through the rich dark finish. It floats gracefully above the Walnut Credenza. The piece displays impressively from every angle. Inside the credenza you will find five useful drawers and a locking cabinet. The original Herman Miller tag is present with George Nelson's 'makers mark.'
