The best way to determine the generation is to identify the glides required. The first generation is a solid leg with a screw-in dome-of-silence glide. The second generation is a solid leg with a slide-on boot glide. The third generation is a tubular leg with a slide-in nylon swivel glide.
You'll also be able to determine which shockmounts you require by matching yours to the vintage examples below. Carefully examine the shape and details on the shockmount, the tabs, and the screw type.
Please note that the generational divisions and styles are not a perfect system, they are a good way to begin to understand the age of your chair. There are some overlaps and blurring between the generations.
