Vintage Items and Condition

For your convenience condition reports are included with each offered vintage item. Clients are encouraged to ask questions if there is an uncertainty. While all effort is given to describe this and all property to the best of our ability, this should be strictly regarded as a statement of opinion and does not constitute any type of warranty or guarantee. For vintage items clients should expect wear consistent with age and use. Clients are always welcome to make an appointment to inspect and view any item prior to purchase. All vintage furniture is sold as is in as found condition.

Offers are considered on all vintage items.


Payment

All major credit cards and Paypal are accepted at www.modernconscience.com. We have some clients who prefer to be invoiced directly through Paypal after placing an order by e-mail. We happily accommodate these requests; if this is the case please contact us.


Shipping Policy - United States

Shipping charges are automatically tabulated in the shopping cart.

Modern Conscience will make every attempt to ship all merchandise within three to five days of purchase for economy ground orders and within two business days for expedited shipping methods, unless otherwise specified. Shipping and delivery estimates are good faith estimates. Modern Conscience will not be liable for any loss, damage, cost or expense related to any delay in shipment or delivery. Orders other than small parts and spares cannot ship to Post Office Boxes.


Shipping Policy - Countries Outside of the United States

For all destinations outside of the United States shipping charges are calculated in the shopping cart based on destination.

Modern Conscience will make every attempt to ship all merchandise within three to five days of purchase unless otherwise specified. Shipping and delivery estimates are good faith estimates. Modern Conscience will not be liable for any loss, damage, cost or expense related to any delay in shipment or delivery.

Modern Conscience does not ship to third party mail and package forwarding services or agents, including those with US addresses.

Shipping carrier is at the discretion of Modern Conscience. International shipments will typically be via USPS Priority Mail International or UPS International (allow 2-6 weeks). Tracking information is provided with every shipment.

Customers requiring faster shipping or a specific carrier may contact us in advance of purchase at sales@modernconscience.com to make express shipping arrangements.

VAT and Import Duties: In the case of international purchases, shipping prices do not include regional tax or import duties. International buyers are responsible for any and all customs charges that may incur upon delivery of the item including, but not limited to, import tax, VAT, delivery fees, or any other taxes or duties. Please consult your local tax authority for an assessment. Many customs offices will hold packages for up to ten days, in the event that the package is unclaimed and is returned to Modern Conscience, you will be liable for the original and additional shipping expenses and fees.

Oversize and heavy weight items: Certain oversize and heavy weight items and shipments will show a shipping fee of $0 in the shopping cart. Shipping is not free for these items. In order to provide the lowest shipping fees, shipping charges for these orders will be separately invoiced after the order is submitted. Should you disagree with the additional shipping charges you will be welcome to cancel your order.

Product availability: A small number of products on the website do not ship to every country in the world. Should you submit an order for an item that does not ship to your country you will be notified and the order will be cancelled.


Order Cancellation

If you wish to cancel your order your request must be received at service@modernconscience.com no more than 24 hours after the original order, an 8% fee will be subtracted from the refund amount in order to cover the Merchant Processing Fee, Modern Conscience is not refunded these fees by the Merchant Processor (the speed with which you cancel your order does not matter, the Merchant Processor does not refund the fee). Orders cancelled after 24 hours may be subject to a minimum 25% or maximum 50% cancellation and restocking fee in addition to any shipping charges incurred.


Returns

In general we only accept returns for defective products. We are amenable to exchanges.

Vintage items, custom items, special order items, made-to-order items, and restoration services are non-refundable.

Keep in mind we are reasonable people and we treat our clients how we'd like to be treated. If you have an issue, concern, or accidentally ordered the wrong part please reach out and we will help as best as we can. We've been in business for decades and we are furniture nerds, just like you.

e-mails and the Newsletter

At Modern Conscience we are not big on spam. We occasionally send out e-mails that include special offers or Newsletters. Special offers might include a private sale, free shipping, or promotional coupon codes.

A newsletter is issued via e-mail one to three times per year. Newsletters include highlights on the furniture design industry, articles on designers whose furniture is offered on the website, and feature stories on new items posted on the website.

You should expect to receive no more than five e-mails per year from us and we never share your e-mail address with third parties. If you would like to receive the Modern Conscience Newsletter or special offers please e-mail us and let us know.


the Want-List

If you cannot find the chair that you are looking for on our website we are happy to assist you. Modern Conscience keeps an exclusive ‘want-list’ for clients who are searching for specific items. If you are registered on the ‘want-list’ we will contact you as soon as the item comes in, before posting it on the website. The ‘want-list’ is a fantastic way to secure the chair you’ve been searching for. To register an item on the ‘want-list’ simply contact us and let us know what you’re looking for.


Repair and Replacement Parts

Modern Conscience manufactures its products in the United States from the highest quality materials available. Professional installation is recommended. In no event shall Modern Conscience, or any of its affiliates, be liable for any special or consequential damages. Since no control is exercised over the use of Modern Conscience parts and products, no warranty, expressed or implied, is made as to the effects of such use. In no event shall Modern Conscience, or any of its affiliates, be liable for any claim from damage arising out of or connected with the manufacture, sale or use of any of its products. The obligation herein shall be limited to the purchase price paid.

Modern Conscience shall not be liable for defects that result from negligence, fading (furniture should not be placed in direct sunlight), soiling, improper cleaning, misuse, abnormal use or accident. Relating to fabrics and upholsteries, Modern Conscience shall not be liable for piling, cleaning, shrinkage, wrinkling, wear, dye-lot variance, damage or failure due to chemical treatment, or damage caused by pets. Color and finish variations are natural in wood and are not considered defects.


Restoration Services

Modern Conscience provides world class restoration services for mid-century furnishings, with particular focus on the influential designers of the Modern era. As with all pursuits there are risks and rewards with restoration. Modern Conscience will make every attempt to restore your piece to its highest value and your desired outcome. Sometimes we may tell you that your piece is worth more if you do not have it restored or repaired. An estimated turn-around time for our services will be provided with your quote, this is a good faith estimate and may change over the course of a restoration due to work flow in the shop and other unforeseeable circumstances. As with all vintage furniture unforeseen circumstances and conditions can arise. Modern Conscience shall not be liable for defects resulting from the age, materials, and/or current condition of the piece. For any claim arising out of the restoration and repair work performed by Modern Conscience the obligation herein shall be limited to the purchase price paid for parts and services.

No down payment is required for restoration services. Payment is required in full before Modern Conscience will ship or allow pick up of restored furnishings. Your furniture serves as the collateral for the services rendered. In the event of non-payment storage fees of $15 per day will incur beginning 30 days after the restoration is complete and payment is requested. After 60 days of non-payment, Modern Conscience reserves the right to sell the furniture in order to recoup the expense of restoration.

Modern Conscience reserves the right to modify or change the terms of use of this site with or without notification.

The information they receive is for shipping and delivery purposes only, and we require that the companies safeguard your personal information in accordance with Modern Conscience’s policies.

When you browse modernconscience.com, you are able to do so anonymously. Generally, we don't collect personal information when you browse - not even your email address. Your browser, however, does automatically tell us the type of computer and operating system you are using.

Like many websites, the Modern Conscience website uses "cookie" technology. When you first connect to our site, the cookie identifies your browser with a unique, random number. The cookies we use do not reveal any personal information about you. Cookies help us understand which parts of modernconscience.com are the most popular, where our visitors are going, and how long they spend there. We use cookies to study traffic patterns on our site so we can make the site even better.

Modern Conscience does not knowingly solicit personal information from children or send them requests for personal information.
